THE DALMATIAN ISLAND JOURNALExplore Dalmatia

Three, five or seven days · KORČULA

Make time your greatest luxury.

A good island itinerary is a framework, not an endurance test. Choose fewer places, give each one time and let the weather have a say.

Three days: an eastern introduction

Use one base around Korčula Town or Lumbarda. Give the first day to the Old Town, the second to Lumbarda’s village, a booked tasting and a swim, and the third to either a small-island outing or Žrnovo. That ‘either’ is important: a short stay needs choices, not a longer list squeezed into less time.

Five days: add the interior

Keep the eastern opening, then give a day to Pupnat and a suitable southern beach. Use another for Čara or Smokvica with one arranged cellar visit. Swap days according to weather and availability. A plan that depends on sunshine, calm sea and every venue being open is not a robust plan.

Seven days: make room for the west

Add Vela Luka as a distinct chapter, perhaps changing base to avoid repeated cross-island journeys. Plan a mainland or harbour day around arrival, then consider Proizd when boats and conditions permit. Keep the last day simple and aligned with your departure port. A spare afternoon is not wasted time.

Adapt before you book

These routes are editorial suggestions, not packages with guaranteed departures or included services. Families, visitors with mobility needs and travellers without a car will need different pacing. Lock in your arrival and accommodation first, then confirm the experiences that matter most. Leave the rest flexible.

Itineraries are editorial suggestions, not bookable packages. Adapt them to your arrival port, the weather and current opening times.

A few good questions

Should I stay in two places?

For a week covering both ends of the island, splitting east and west can reduce repeated transfers. For three nights, one well-chosen base is usually a simpler editorial recommendation.
