Getting here & getting around · KORČULA

Begin with the right arrival.

Before the first swim, one detail matters more than most: which Korčula port is actually printed on your ticket.

Three names that are not interchangeable

Korčula Town, Dominče and Vela Luka are distinct arrival points. Jadrolinija’s Orebić–Dominče car ferry serves the eastern side, while its Split–Vela Luka route reaches the west. A booking that says ‘Korčula island’ is not enough information for a transfer. Read the port and check the operator’s terminal instructions.

Passenger boats and the season

High-speed passenger services connect the island with mainland and island ports on route-specific schedules. Consult Jadrolinija, Krilo and TP Line for your actual date. Not every service runs all year or carries a car. Schedules, stopping patterns, luggage rules and cancellation conditions should be checked with the operator, not assumed from a previous summer.

Build in room for the connection

When arriving through Split or Dubrovnik, allow time between airport, mainland port and boat. The transfer is a separate journey, and a delayed flight does not automatically protect a ferry booking. For a high-consequence departure, consider a mainland overnight rather than relying on the last feasible crossing.

On the island

A town-focused stay can be enjoyed on foot, while inland villages and distant coves call for more planning. Check current Arriva buses, arrange taxis or decide whether a hire car genuinely supports your route. Confirm parking with your host. Boats to smaller islands depend on the operating season and weather, so always know your way back.

A few good questions

Can I take my car on a catamaran?

Do not assume so. The fast services described here are passenger services; use an appropriate car-ferry route and confirm vehicle requirements with the operator.

Can I rely on an island boat before my flight?

A tight same-day connection carries disruption risk. Allow a meaningful buffer and consider travelling to the mainland the day before an important flight.
