Žrnovo: a village, not a detour
Close to the eastern town, Žrnovo is a natural place to begin looking inland. Its connection with hand-made makaruni gives lunch a story, but do not reduce the village to one dish. Take time for the stone lanes and keep in mind that the places you are looking at are often private homes and working spaces.
Pupnat and the southern turn
Pupnat can be paired with an outing toward Pupnatska Luka, provided the day does not become a race from viewpoint to beach. The village and the cove are separate stops with different conditions. Check the access road locally and treat small village streets with the same consideration you would expect outside your own front door.
Čara and Smokvica: follow the vineyards
These inland places anchor the island’s Pošip story. A pre-arranged cellar visit gives a route purpose; arriving at random expecting every door to be open does not. Leave time to see the landscape between appointments. For a wine-focused day, organise a driver instead of trying to negotiate tastings around a driving schedule.
Račišće and a quieter waterfront
On the northern coast west of Korčula Town, Račišće adds a harbour village to an eastern stay. Combine fewer stops and allow the waterfront to be enough. Small bays and villages should not be marketed as secret places: they are shared spaces whose appeal depends on visitors treating them gently.
A few good questions
Can I explore the villages without a car?
Some trips may work with current buses, a taxi or an arranged excursion. Connections vary, so verify the return before setting off; do not assume every village has frequent services.
