Start with the shore under your feet
Korčula is not one continuous sandy coastline. Lumbarda’s Vela Pržina and Bilin Žal are useful starting points for sand; many other swimming places are pebbly or rocky. Before choosing, consider access, natural shade, sea entry and the needs of everyone in your group. A beautiful aerial photograph does not tell you any of those things.
Pupnatska Luka: make it the destination
On the southern coast, Pupnatska Luka is a cove framed by wooded slopes and a pebble beach. Treat it as a deliberate outing, not an automatic extra after an already crowded day. Check current access and parking arrangements locally, and bring water. Conditions, facilities and congestion vary across the season.
Badija and the eastern archipelago
Badija offers a different island perspective, with its monastery frontage and wooded setting. Confirm both outward and return boat arrangements before leaving Korčula or Lumbarda. A water taxi is not a promise of unlimited service; the return time matters especially outside the busiest part of summer.
Proizd belongs to the western chapter
Proizd is approached from the Vela Luka side of the island, not as a quick add-on to every eastern itinerary. Plan it with a western stay or a full western day. Check the operating boat service and the weather. Keep a land-based alternative rather than building your final day around a weather-dependent crossing.
A few good questions
Which beach is best for families?
Start by comparing Lumbarda’s sandy beaches, but choose for that day’s conditions, shade and access. No beach can be declared safe for every child or every sea state.
